Who is your fashion inspiration?
Rickey Thompson & Bella Hadid
How would you describe your personal style?
To me a really huge part about selecting the clothes I wear is how I will feel in them more so than the style of them. I never box myself into any one category. Anything that makes me feel confident is an immediate yes, for that reason I think I flip flop around a lot in terms of what I wear. If I had to put my finger on it, I would say 90’s girl next door meets Sex and the City with a touch of teenage boy vibes. I also love mixing high end pieces with affordable pieces as well.
What is your career goal?
Right now, my career goal is to get a publishing deal for my third book. Beyond that I want to do another book tour, launch my own brand and my own online platform (which are all in the works – well apart from the tour).
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Heels or sneakers kinda gal?
Depends on the occasion, I would say sneakers, but they have to be a statement sneaker. I always wear sneakers that kind of ‘carry’ the outfit. I do love a heel if I’m headed out because it makes me feel sexy and important (which I am not).
What is you go to staple wardrobe piece at the moment?
Right now, vintage Levi’s. I wear 550’s and get most of them customised with the rips I want or to fit my waist. I love a loose pair of denim as they go with anything. Other than that, I love my Prada nylon bag’s, so versatile and a staple with any outfit.
What has been your career highlight so far?
A standout career highlight would be landing on the best sellers with my book Bully or my sold out show for my book tour in Auckland, or when I launched my second book Darling and we sold my entire first order of books in 5 minutes OR when we launched my podcast! I’m lucky that I’ve had loads of career highlights it’s very hard to choose, this year I got to work with a bunch of my ‘dream brands’ which has also been very very fun!!
Do you have a message you would like to send to our audiences? Could be something motivational - how you got to where you are as an influencer/ fashion related etc.
How did you get to where you are now?
Instagram for me just happened. I was lost, it filled time, it made me feel more confident and it just grew and grew. I genuinely love taking pictures both as the photographer or ‘modelling’. I studied and worked briefly as a photographer. I love putting an image together, I love doing makeup/hair, styling, to me it’s the whole package. Even the background matters/how the photo’s balanced. I don’t care if anyone thinks I’m good at it or not, I probably am not very good at it HAHA! But it makes me, me! I truly think when you genuinely love and enjoy something it radiates through; I would like to think people can sense that about me and it’s probably why they follow me. Although it has taken ‘work’ it was never something I intentionally had to force myself to do. I’ve been taking photos for Instagram since I was 17 (and I’m 24 now). I only really started working with brands properly this year, for ages and ages I did it completely for free and for fun to be honest if I had 2 followers or 2 million, I’d post the same stuff. My advice to anyone interested in getting into social media is to make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons, if it doesn’t bring you genuine joy it most likely will not work out – and that goes for anything. Always follow your heart with any career/personal choice, even if it doesn’t make sense. I’ve been following mine my whole life and I guess it worked out!
